The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database Ratings, from 0-2, are in the parentheses after the specific product. 0-2 is the safe range, 0 being completely non-toxic. The EWG rating system is not perfect and it is important to review the ingredients on products. However, it is a fantastic starting place for learning about ingredients and possible toxicity. Some companies have been known to not send in the full listing and thus rate higher than they should and some ingredients have been entered into the system in such a manner as to come out in the toxic range when it is not at all toxic. See the Misinformation of “Skin Deep” on the Sukipure website if you are interested in knowing more about the strengths and weaknesses of the EWG skin deep database. Overall I am a huge believer in the work of the Environmental Working Group and this incredible database. No one can expect it to be perfect. People just have to be aware.

Most cosmetic products contain salicylates, mineral oil, petroleum by-products and other potentially harmful ingredients. I bought the Physician’s Formula mascara per your website’s recommendation, and I love it. I am a daily makeup-wearer, and it performs the same as any of the other (toxic) mascaras I used to wear. It is quite thick, but doesn’t clump, make my eyes itch or get flakey.
It is hard to find a safe/pure mascara that truly works as well as conventional ones. So, thanks for letting us know!
I’ve tried almost all of the rms products. They are so amazing and I love using something other than powdered mineral makeup. The luminizer is unbelievable.
I hope you will update this with a 2009 list. AVA ANDERSON NON TOXIC will be at the top of the list. The very first non toxic line of cosmetics is launching in November. Top to bottom – ALL ZEROS – no toxins. “BE A

I have tried the Coastal Classics Creations eyeshadows, and unfortunately, they do not blend well into the skin. I have three colors, a yellow, light brown, and dark brown, and all of them get smudgy and uneven. It may be because I have dry skin – I have heard powders aren’t good for dry skin. However, putting moisturizer on beforehand didn’t help. I really like the philosophy of the company though, so I am very glad I supported them by buying their products. Also, I LOVE their mascara!!! It is isn’t very dark, which is perfect for me since I am blonde, but if you have dark hair you might not see a huge difference. Hope that helps people out! If anyone has tried their foundation and has dry skin I would love to hear how it is! Thanks!
